Mtb Trail Building - Switchback Climb
Had my first run last weekend... Pretty sweet but I preferred the jump line. Great to see new trails being opened up 🙂
Some of those features seriously need to be rebuilt or at the least have bigger run ins. I’ve ridden those trails a good few times now and I wasn’t sure if they were possible and after seeing you do them I’m 100% that they’ve been built wrong
What features are you having trouble with? How can u say they're not possible, watch me do all of it and then say its built wrong? 🤷♂ I can definitely assure you they are Not built wrong. Maby your technique for jumping/keeping up speed needs a little work?
@@ScottCoyne I don’t think that they are not possible, but I think that to do the them the pace u need is too much. For lots of those bigger jumps the run ins just aren’t big enough. Even in this video you cased two and you were going insane speeds, it is great building but I think some parts just need tweaking. Compare it to similar stuff in ballinastoe, ticknock, gap etc. I just think it needs some longer or steeper run ins. My riding is definitely not as good as yours but I still think that even pro riders would find it difficult to find the speed for some of those features
@ihategealscoilau1698 Not sure which ones i cased or how you can tell from the video. That wasnt insane speed either, just cruzing with a few pedal-ins before some of the jumps. There is 1 jump in the top section thats harder then the rest as its uphill a bit before the take off but still works perfect from everyone iv seen jump it and myself. A few things to keep in mind when comparing it to the likes of Stoe/Gap etc. -- The gap is privately run Bike Park and in a more controled enviroment. These are public trails. Thoes trails are longer and in more open/clearfelled areas which give you free reign to deside where the trail goes. Compared to the trail in the video that had to be built in-between 3 other trails without knocking any of thoes big trees. So longer steeper run ins were not an option without just pointing it straight down. Which would of been too fast for jumps on public non bikepark trails. Pros would fly past any of thoes jumps with ease! There's a good few ppl i meet every weekend up there well capable of clearing them that have been practicing every week. Including a few of my buddies that are completly new into jumping that are starting to tick them off(not all the jumps, yet) If your up one of the sundays and spot me, i can lead you in for some of them and show you how i manage them. Trails not perfect, but with restrictions/weather(rain/snow)budet and deadlines etc etc im happy with it.
I’ll have another look at em, I see what you mean about not taking down any trees and how it’s hard to do run ins. I didn’t take that into account. I still think atleast one table on the second half of that trail is too long for the run in but I’ll ride em some more and see where I can make pace
Nice one mate
Sort of defeats the purpose. May as well ride on a tar road
Great idea ! We will tar it next time👏
Where does the end of this trail leave you? Just wondering is it a long pedal back to the top if you wanted to session this and the other new trail. Thanks
If you turn right on the fire road where i stoped in the vid and dont continue onto the next trail, its a short loop back up to session the 2 new trails. Its the same road as the trail ASAP, but you can take the dual walker/biker access back up. Otherwise if you continue across the road you'll end up at the bottom of ASAP with a longer climb.
Hi where is this?
Laois, in slieve bloom mountains beside the start of Doom
Looking forward to visiting this lovely place very soon 💚
Leave it so.🫣🫣
Leave it so??🤔
@@ScottCoyne it's just a saying we say to each other when we see someone do something at a level myself or my friends will never reach.
@@paulbergin5903 🤦🤦 couldn't figure it out. 🤣🤣
@@ScottCoyne in fairness bud,it was a pretty vague comment, I should have said, that was a savage run down heatseeker.👍👌💪
0:38 That's class
Is that on the kinnity side or baunreagh side Scott
It's on the baunreagh side John. Beside the start of Doom
I think this is my new favourite, it just gets better the faster you ride it 🤙
Amazing job and the new trails👍👍...and the riding😲
Wow. just wow 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Good job,perfect run👏👏
That’s KOM run🤭💪😂
🔥🔥
Fast as f@k 💪
O ya forgot to say, that's some fecking riding.. as usual
Hey Scott , are reactor and renegade on the same side as spitfire and heat seeker ?.
They are both on the kinnitty side just below spacejam
Nice one.
Haulin ass 👍
Amazing job on all the black trails both sides 👏
I just rode this trail today Scott and wow that's all i can say
👏👏👏
WTF wow 👏👏👏👏
🫣🤣
Rode it today amazing trail 🤙🤘
Unreal fast.
That's awesome.
Class 👌
Nice. Do ye plan on doing something with the jumps at the end of this trail? It's strange having to pedal uphill into a jump line. A timber elevated platform to drop in off of would be great. Btw, the rest ot the stuff ye have built up there is brilliant.
Where are these fast flowy trails at?
They're in Malaga. We had a local guide show us around for a few days.
Where did you find the local guide of you don’t mind me asking? I’m living about 2 hours away and I’d like to get to know some trails 🤙
Out of curiosity, which trail is this?! i ride up there all the time, and cant place it!
It's called "Valley run" I think. After the trail "Nature Valley". It's a climbing trail
Now boys and girls, that's how space jam is ridden.👏👏👏
Looks quality, although this trail seems to be closed now, not sure why. The last couple of times I went up just to find a barrier over the start. No mention of it being closed before you head off either, a real shame.
Love the view, would actually appreciate it being a bit slower with the actual machine work.
lol...thats insane riding... im never making a video again.....whoop!
🤣🤣
Is this a Walmart funded project?? Not realistic for anyone building their own trails,,thanks tho
No Walmart in Ireland... But it was a funded project to build a new trail network. Ofc it's not realistic unless you have the machines and funding etc...
mental riding....the trail is impressive for coillte!
It’s an absolutely amazing trail . I wish I could go as fast as you :)
Absolutely sick!!! 🤙🏻
Class, will there be updated maps available with all the new stuff?
And this one 💚
there you are dazza! that fella was flyin! YOB😉
Nice one! Looking forward to see this one soon 😎
Brilliant videos Scott. Where does this one start? Isbit near the start of skyline somewhere?
Amazing riding...
You made that look way too easy...I blew out the rear tyre on it last Sunday going nowhere near as quick as that 😂
🤣easy when you know it off by heart. Hope you didn't have to walk all the way back!
@@ScottCoyne came down hard on the rock garden and instantly deflated the tyre. 2 min walk to the end, added a tube and was back in business, superb trail 👍
Class 👍
Bald tyres?😂
How does it feel to still be king of the mountain on Strata. Lmao good job
Is that supposed to be an insult 🤔 feels great I guess 🤷 😂
@@ScottCoyne no dude I wouldn't do that sorry if it felt thar way bro
@@Danosaur-nr6ne my bad, read that wrong🫣 someone might take the time off me one of the days 😂
@@ScottCoyne even if they do. Your still a legend man. I can't even get top ten on Strata but I'm getting better on the space jams
Nice work! Mind if I ask what you figure cost per foot on surfaces trail like this? Working on bids for a few projects like this in NC and would be happy to have a little outside guidance
Best visuals and shortest overview of constructing a switchback, but the music is a little loud for my taste, otherwise an excellent example of trail-building.
